Privacy Policy - Defensive Training Services

This policy explains what Defensive Training Services collects when you use this website or register for a class, what we do with it, and the choices you have. We use the InstructorOps platform to run registration, scheduling, and messaging, so some of this is handled by that platform on our behalf.

What we collect

Details you give us when you register: name, email address, phone number, and anything else the registration form asks for.
Your class history with us — what you registered for, attended, rescheduled, or cancelled.
Any waiver, emergency contact, or eligibility information a class requires.
Messages you send us by email, text message, or a form on this site, and our replies.
Basic technical information your browser sends, such as IP address and pages viewed, used to keep the site working and secure.

Payment information

Card payments are processed by Stripe. Your card number is sent directly to Stripe and is never stored by us. We keep a record of the amount, date, and status of a payment so we can support and refund it.

How we use it

To register you for classes and hold your seat.
To send confirmations, reminders, schedule changes, and other messages about a class you registered for.
To answer questions you send us.
To keep the records a training business needs, including attendance and any certificate issued.
To meet legal obligations and to protect the safety of students and staff.

Text messages

We send text messages only to people who have asked for them. If you opted in, you can stop at any time by replying STOP to any message, and reply HELP for help. Message and data rates may apply. Declining text messages does not affect your registration — we will use email instead.

Email

We send transactional email about classes you registered for — confirmations, reminders, receipts, and changes. Marketing or newsletter email is only sent if you asked for it, and every one carries an unsubscribe link.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only:

With the service providers that run this business — the platform hosting this site and its registration system, our payment processor, and our email and text message providers — and only so they can provide that service to us.
With a venue, facility, or host site, where they require an attendee list for access or safety.
Where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to protect someone's safety.

Cookies

This site uses cookies that are necessary for it to work, including keeping you signed in to an account and keeping registration secure. Those are always on.

We also count visits to this site so we know which pages are useful. That counting uses no cookies and no advertising services: it records the page visited, the site that linked you here, your device type and your country, and it does not store your IP address or your name.

So that we can tell how many different people visited rather than just how many pages were opened, we hold a scrambled code for your device that changes every month and cannot be turned back into your details. It is kept separately from the pages you looked at, so it can be counted but not used to build a picture of you. If you register for a class, we also record how many visits it took before you booked, which tells us whether our pages are doing their job.

We may also use optional analytics and advertising cookies. Analytics tells us which pages are useful. Advertising cookies come from ad platforms such as Google, Meta (Facebook and Instagram), or TikTok, and they let us measure which ads led to a registration and show ads to people who have visited this site; those platforms may use what they collect for their own advertising purposes, which can include profiling. Nothing optional is loaded until you accept it in the cookie banner, and you can change your mind at any time using the cookie preferences link in the footer.

How long we keep it

We keep registration and attendance records for as long as we need them to run the business and to meet legal, tax, and insurance obligations. When a record is no longer needed for those purposes, it is deleted.

Your choices

Ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you.
Ask us to correct anything that is wrong.
Ask us to delete your information, except where we are required to keep it.
Stop text messages by replying STOP, and marketing email by using the unsubscribe link.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state or national privacy law. Contact us and we will honor them.

Children

This website is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from a child online. Where a minor attends a class, their details are provided by a parent or legal guardian.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The current version is always published on this page.
